Retinal Detachment Repair

    About the Treatment

    It is a surgery to repair the retina of the eye. When the retina gets moved away from the back of the eye, the surgery is done to place it back. Most retinal detachments lead to blindness if not treated urgently. It requires urgent surgery. The procedure is called Pneumatic retinopexy.

  • The surgeon will inject a gas bubble which will travel up to the hole and push it back in place. Then it will be sealed permanently by a laser.

  • The patient needs to maintain a proper position to let the gas bubble position itself into the retinal hole.
  • The patient should not fly or go to higher altitudes at least for few weeks after surgery.
